Before the new school year, Corpus Christi RC Primary School was looking to update its nursery areas. The outside play and wet play area required serious updating and the school was looking to further develop its external spaces to encourage learning through play.
A priority for William Kish Architects was to ensure child protection by solving the boundary fencing issues and build a safe and solid border around the outside of the external play area.
Following this, to further enhance the outdoor space and encourage social learning opportunities, we installed a new water wall, mud kitchen and sand pit area.
From there, we also created a stage area made from special non-slip decking for the children to enjoy and allow them to transform their indoor drama lessons into outdoor performances.
To complete the transformation, the outdoor area was also refurbished with AstroTurf play surfacing and brighter wall render finishes to make the space feel warm and welcoming, whatever the weather.
For us, it was also really important to ‘green up’ the space, which is why the finishing touches included adding planting boxes and pots wherever possible.
Ready for the new intake of pupils, we’ve provided a clean, fresh look to the area with new opportunities for the children to learn and play.
William Kish Architect’s services included full design of the refurbishments and updates to the area, managing the project from conception to completion.
The refurbishment was completed on time and within budget.
